In light of the changes announced by the UK Home Office regarding obtaining permanent residence in the United Kingdom, we would like to reassure people who hold status under the EUSS:
These changes do not apply to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS). ✅
🛡️ Why are these changes not relevant to you?
The rights of people covered by the EUSS are protected under the Withdrawal Agreement, which is the agreement between the United Kingdom and the European Union following Brexit.
This is a legally binding international agreement that safeguards the residence rights of eligible EU citizens and their family members after Brexit.
✅ What does this mean in practice?
People holding Pre-Settled Status can still obtain Settled Status after 5 years of qualifying residence.
People holding Settled Status retain their existing rights.
The proposed extension of the standard route to permanent residence from 5 to 10 years does not apply to the EUSS.
The new income and English language requirements will not apply when obtaining Settled Status under the EUSS.
📢 The Home Office has confirmed that the EU Settlement Scheme remains outside the scope of the Earned Settlement reform.
There is therefore no reason to be concerned about the announced immigration changes. However, it is still important to continue complying with the rules of the EUSS.
