If you have status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS), it's important to know that your child is not automatically covered. Every child must have their own EUSS application, even if you already have settled or pre-settled status.
When Should You Apply?
Although the main EUSS deadline was 30 June 2021, you can still apply for your child in certain circumstances, including if they:
Were born after the deadline
Joined you in the UK as a family member
You should submit your child's application within 90 days of:
Their birth or adoption, or
Their first arrival in the UK after 31 December 2020.
If you apply after this period, the Home Office will treat the application as late.
Even if your child was born in the UK, they may still need to apply if they are not automatically a British citizen.
If you missed the deadline for an older child who was already living in the UK before 31 December 2020, you may still be able to apply if you can provide reasonable grounds for the delay.
If You Have Already Applied to the EU Settlement Scheme
When applying for your child, you can link their application to your own. This helps ensure that if your application is successful, your child will usually receive the same immigration status.
To link the applications:
Select the option to get parent or guardian’s status.
Enter your EUSS application number.
Repeat this process for each child you are applying for.
You do not need to wait for a decision on your own application before applying for your child. As long as you have submitted your application, you can proceed with theirs.
Documents You'll Need
When completing your child's application, you will usually need to provide:
Proof of Identity
A valid passport, or
A valid national identity card.
Proof of Relationship
Child’s full birth certificate, or
An adoption certificate, if applicable.
Proof of Residence
Depending on how long your child has lived in the UK, you may need to provide evidence showing their residence in the UK.
