If you are pregnant or have given birth in the last 12 months, you are entitled to a Maternity Exemption Certificate. This certificate provides you with free NHS prescriptions and can also be used as proof of entitlement to free NHS dental treatment while you are pregnant.
To obtain the certificate, speak with your midwife, doctor, or health visitor—they will complete the application for you once your pregnancy is confirmed.
Additionally, if you are receiving specific benefits and are pregnant or have a child under 4, you might be eligible for the NHS Healthy Start card. If you are under 18 and pregnant, you can qualify for this card even if you do not receive any benefits.
The card provides money every 4 weeks to help you purchase healthy food and milk. For more information on the requirements and how to apply, visit the NHS website at Healthy Start - How to Apply.
To find out if you're entitled to help with other health costs, use the NHS eligibility checker.
